We spent a week in Derbyshire early last year, partly as a break and partly to attend the ‘Format’ street photography event and to catch up with fellow photographers. We stayed in a great apartment which was part of a ramshackle building 5 miles from the city centre, and the easiest way from the front door to the car was through a lock-up garage. As is the way with garages, things had been abandoned in there including collection of old hurricane lamps left rusting on the wall. I could see that these had photographic potential and I have made the result available as part of my Fine Art print collection on my website. Vaisakhi Lady

Living in the multicultural society of a large city can give you photo opportunities at celebrations of many events in calendars other than your own. Vaisakhi is one such event and is celebrated in the Hindu community here with a parade through the town. Colourful, noisy and vibrant it is difficult not to get a few good images but the image below eluded my post-shooting thought processes for some time. Shot using digital RAW it was a colourful image, but I wanted something else out of it which conveyed the lady in her alter years unswamped by colour – something that captured her spirit more than her clothes and only monochrome can does this in my opinion. Using the new Lightroom 4 Beta I finally achieved what I was after by adding a gold tone which made her face more radiant and I was able to hold back other areas of the image. I am very pleased with the result and hope you like it too!

I am constantly bemused by what sales where in the stock photography world, but I am (of course) always delighted when an image sells. This image has use sold through one of the agencies I work with for use in a textbook in Germany. Musical pipes from Australia on sale in a market in Winchester (England) are sold for a book in Germany. Quite a journey they have had!

Welcome to my restyled blog which I hope you will find attractive. I will make very effort to post here more frequently, although I cannot guarantee anything I am afraid. Time just seems to run away with me. It simply amazes me how long I spend in front of the screen here editing images, uploading them etc. etc. so please forgive me if I appear less than diligent at times.
