Sometimes when I am shooting something pretty serious I manage to spot an image which is totally unexpected. Call it luck, call it what you will, but to pass the opportunity would be wrong.

So there I was shooting for a very serious event at the Music Faculty of Southampton University. The shoot took the form of rehearsal/soundcheck followed by concert for general sots and a question and answer session afterwards. No problem at all, I have done similar work in the same venue countless times and I know the people well. All was well, and then suddenly during the student Q&A session I spot this image. A guy had bought a silvery white cello case into the auditorium and sat in next to him just as if it was listening to the session. I HAD MY IMAGE! Converting it to black and white gave me what I was looking for, and produced a bit of fun. The cello case was sat there just like an alien from Roswell – I hope you agree.

About Gerry Walden

I am a stock photographer with far more years of experience than I would care to mention. Located in Southampton (UK) I am sandwiched between two national parks and my home town is a major seaport. I shoot mostly people related images, and travel when I can. I am resident photographer at a major concert venue in the town which means I get to shoot a variety of musicians.
